Care for HIV/AIDS Orphans and other Vulnerable Children

Projects designed under this thematic area, target HIV/AIDS orphans and their families. In this context, we refer to vulnerable children as those children in need of protection from abuse and exploitation, children taking care of relatives that are living with HIV/AIDS, children looking after the elderly and children associated with fighting forces. Specifically targeted under this thematic area, are girl mothers, youth and adolescents.

Interventions include a range of activities that aim to strengthen resilience and positive coping of orphans and their households affected by HIV/AIDS. Services include psychosocial counseling and support, increasing access to voluntary counseling and testing services, enhancing capacity of schools to recognize and support the special needs of orphans in school, massive awareness raising and attitude change campaigns and linking orphan headed households to socio-economic support initiatives.
