Our child protection approach entails identifying and mitigating the risk factors that children are frequently exposed to, that prevent children from enjoying normal development and exploiting their full potential. We aim to create an environment that is supportive to children and allows them to enjoy their rights in a responsible manner. This approach is underpinned by a process of identifying the circle of support around the child, identifying community support structures including duty bearers in the district service delivery structure and defining their roles in protecting children from harm, abuse and exploitation.
Through regular awareness raising campaigns, we aim to enlighten and educate duty bearers including families and community leaders on the rights and responsibilities of children; on international statutes pertaining to children e.g the Convention of the Rights of the Child and the Optional Protocols; the African Charter on the Rights of the Child and other relevant legislation and policy guidelines. Interventions require that community led systems of monitoring and tracking cases of abuse are put in place in all our target communities and the subcounty local government administration is supported to lead the process of coordinating child focused activities as well as establishing referral pathways among service providers.
