Our GBV interventions target
survivors of sexual violence, perpetrators of harmful traditional practices (such
as genital excision), duty bearers and communities to recognize the different
forms of gender based violence and to develop community based prevention and
response mechanisms that reduce incidences of sexual violence and mitigate the
risk of further harm to survivors.
By creating community prevention and
response systems, we endeavour to increase access to services for survivors and
victims and ensure that they are able to receive support through clearly
identifiable community based structures.
At a service delivery level, we deliver
psychosocial support to survivors and their families, strengthening their
resilience and coping as well as linking them to other service providers for
referral and follow up. Selected duty bearers such as; health workers, judicial
officials, police and district technocrats are trained and supported to
identify, support and plan for interventions that meet the needs of survivors
of gender based violence. In schools, we
work with teachers to set up GBV monitoring mechanisms and codes of conduct
against sexual exploitation and abuse. We develop and disseminate information
and education materials on GBV among pupils and teachers alike.
