Training

The TPO Uganda Training & Capacity Building Unit provides technical support and capacity building to government, UN agencies, local and international NGOs. The Training and Capacity Building Unit was established in response to the growing demand by districts and Civil Society Organizations requesting TPO to support them in psychosocial programming or directly commence psychosocial programmes in their districts or regions. This has placed TPO Uganda among the few organizations in the Great Lakes Region that provide specialized training for humanitarian actors that want to scale up and/ or integrate psychosocial care into their mainstream programme activities.

The Training & Capacity Building Unit has a full time Technical Support Team that undertakes external assignments. Trainers have built vast experience over time and are well versed with community psychosocial needs assessments; designing appropriate family and community oriented interventions, supporting and guiding service providers to deliver services; training and developing community based systems for monitoring and supporting psychosocial interventions; and development of psychosocial training manuals for different target population.

TPO Uganda has also established a Training Institute that is affiliated to Kyambogo University, one of the public universities in the country to offer post graduate diploma in psychosocial interventions. It is located in rural Uganda in Ewata Village –Arua with modern facilities. The Institute offers tranquil space for academic study (courses specialized in psychosocial and mental health support) and the availability of field study due to its close proximity to community development activities. The Institute’s facilities are also available to the public for hire to host conferences, workshops, seminars, meetings, wedding, and graduation parties.

It is located in the town of Arua just 5 kms from Arua town off the Kampala-Pakwach Road.

The Institute has easy daily accessibility by air in 90 minutes and by road in 7 hours from Kampala.
